Biodynamics beyond Burgundy: domaines Pélican and Clau de Nell

Burgundy is a relatively small region that punches above its weight, tightly defined and fiercely protected boundaries safeguarding its reputation while boosting land prices and thwarting aspirations of expansion for its winemakers, who have instead made their mark elsewhere, from the USA to New Zealand and South Africa. However, there’s also plenty of Burgundian influence closer to home in France, most notably Jura’s Domaine du Pélican, owned by Guillaume d’Angerville of Domaine Marquis d’Angerville in Volnay, and Anne-Claude Leflaive’s former Loire outpost, Clau de Nell, of which Sylvain Potin is technical director. David Kermode met both at a tasting hosted by their importer, Corney & Barrow, to find out more.
