Light bottle, big ambition: Alentejo takes step towards lighter bottles

Wines of Alentejo has unveiled a prototype for a new lightweight bottle, developed with Verallia and targeting a weight of 390g. The initiative aims to make lighter glass more affordable for wineries across the region with the design subject to successful testing in 2027. Lilla O'Connor reports from the London presentation and reviews the talha wines shown at the subsequent tasting – wines that are fermented and aged in large clay amphorae called talhas.
