Roman shipwreck with 500 amphorae discovered off Sicily

A 2,100-year-old Roman shipwreck carrying more than 500 amphorae has been discovered off the Sicilian coast near Mazara del Vallo. Remarkably intact at a depth of 46 metres, the vessel and its cargo could offer archaeologists a new window into the wine trade and the commercial routes that connected the ancient Mediterranean.
