The Wright take on how Fianos breaking into the mainstream
With Fiano Day around the corner (Friday 16 October), Daily Wine News took a trip to the McLaren Vale and sat down with Corrina Wright, winemaker and director at Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards, to learn more about the alternative white that’s causing quite the buzz. Last year, Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards worked with Mastermind Consulting to develop the inaugural Fiano Festa and Fiano Day with the intention of encouraging consumers to learn more about the category. “We thought there were about 80 producers, but we've now found that there's about 300 producers of Fiano across Australia,” Wright explained. Surprisingly, Fiano is planted in diverse regions all over the country, from Geographe in WA to the Hunter Valley in NSW. “You’d be hard pressed to find a restaurant locally in South Australia that doesn’t have Fiano on the list now, and that is spreading to the eastern seaboard and over in the west as well.”
