Wine industry welcomes $109 million support package for SA, calls for national action

The wine industry has welcomed the $109 million SA Wine Industry Transition and Growth Package announced by Premier Peter Malinauskas at the 2026 SA Wine Industry Dinner last Thursday night, hosted by the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA). Australian Grape & Wine (AGW) welcomed the package while calling on the Australian Government to work with their state government counterparts to match the commitment nationally. AGW CEO Lee McLean congratulated Premier Malinauskas for “recognising the significant challenges facing grapegrowers and winemakers and responding with practical support”. “South Australia produces around half of Australia’s winegrapes and half of our bottled wine, so this investment will make a real difference. But the challenges facing our sector do not stop at the South Australian border. The other half of Australia’s grapegrowers and winemakers are facing many of the same pressures and are equally deserving of support.” Vinarchy has also welcomed the support, with chief corporate officer Jeremy Stevenson saying the package recognises the pressures facing growers and winemakers as well as the importance of supporting the industry’s long-term future.
